B'NAI MITZVAH

Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, son/daughter of the commandment is a significant event in a Jewish young person's life. If your child starts their Jewish education by 3rd grade, he/she will have appropriate amount of time needed to learn the JLC's cumulative and comprehensive prayer curriculum. Our prayer curriculum, prepares your child to be an active participant in any Friday, Saturday and holiday worship service. Becoming a B'nai Mitzvah is not the ultimate goal for obtaining a Jewish education, but a meaningful and beautiful life cycle event that honors the young person with a Torah aliyah (to be called up), while leading Shabbat services. All B'nai Mitzvah candidates must be a registered student in good financial standing, or have an approved private tutoring arrangement, in order to be eligible for B'nai Mitzvah lessons and a ceremony/service with JLC tutors and clergy.

The JLC encourages individuality, and the opportunity to personalize a child's B'nai Mitzvah service. We do not assign a B'nai Mitzvah date, but are available for consultation in choosing one. The JLC is fortunate to have many skilled B'nai Mitzvah tutors, that work together with the officiant, for an easy, cohesive and beneficial preparation experience. The tutor and family, find a convenient day and time for the B'nai Mitzvah lessons, The tutoring fees are very affordable for the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area, and are the same for all JLC B'nai Mitzvah tutors. Students begin their formal B'nai Mitzvah preparation 9-12 months prior to their service. The start time for lessons is contingent on the student's Hebrew ability, and whether they are available for lessons over the summer months. The 2023-2024 tutoring fee is $75 for per hour. The officiating fee for 2023-2024 is $2,200. We are very proud, that this special Jewish Life cycle event, becomes a unique, meaningful, and memorable experience for each family.
